in advertising

There’s only one instance throughout an entire year when everyone watches commercials: the Super Bowl. This year, I must admit that I was pretty unimpressed. Sure there was Megan Fox, a violin-playing beaver, men running around in their underwear, a guy watching tv in his casket, Beyonce, pretty Clydesdales and a longhorn, Betty White, a cheesy Dorito-covered gym rat and Danica Patrick, but the winner by far goes to Google.

See, the men in the room said, “Oh give me a break,” while the women said, “Oh my gosh, that was the best commercial EVER!” Either way, it got a response. Isn’t that what advertising’s all about? Personally, I loved the Google commercial. Not just because I’m a girl and the commercial was sweet, sappy and romantic, but also because it was real and simple. Which ad was your favorite? Were you unimpressed? Leave a comment–I’d love to hear your take. Watch the Super Bowl 2010 ads all over again in Hulu’s AdZone.

I had the same reaction to the Google commercial–so sweet, and well-done. It told a whole story in nothing but search queries. Fantastic!

I don't know which was my favorite, but I don't think there were any that are going to be considered classics, like the Budweiser frogs of years and years ago.
