Life on a Google Map.

in travel

I spilled ice cream all over myself on an airplane once. I was a little girl (probably somewhere between 6 and 8 years old) when my grandma bought me ice cream before I got on the plane. It was a must-have treat for the long plane ride ahead: home to Texas. I was so young when I got my first pair of wings that I don’t even remember how old I was or where I was going.

I remember visiting my grandparents’ house as a little girl, staring up at their huge collection of elaborate masks hanging on the wall. I was in awe. They had collected these beautiful masks from places all around the world. Pictures hung around the room of their travels together. When I visited my other grandparents’ home, it was no different. They had photos lining the walls of their many cruises, travels and visits with family and friends. I guess you could say traveling is in my blood.

Many of my travels have been to warm weather destinations including Mexico, Florida, Hawaii, Costa Rica, the Caribbean and the Bahamas. I’ve eaten oranges in Valencia, seen the leaning tower of Pisa, watched the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, seen the Mona Lisa at the Louvre, stood next to the David, visited Vatican City, sled down a mountain in Switzerland and planted my toes in the beaches of Barcelona. I’ve tasted delicious wine from Tuscany to Fredericksburg, Texas. I’ve eaten at Carnegie Deli in New York City, swam off the white sands of Destin, Fla., skied the mountains of Colorado, tasted Ethiopian food in Washington, D.C., lost lots of money in Las Vegas and probably had more Mexican food in more cities than you can imagine.

I’ve been wanting to do this blog post for a while. Jot down all the cities and countries around the world that I’ve visited at one point or another on a map and add to it as I go. So, here’s my life so far on a Google Map:

Laurie, this is SO cool! I love how you did this.

I have been traveling since before I could talk, I think my first plane ride was at 10 months and I haven't stopped since. I love it (in fact, I have a post coming out tomorrow about this, stay tuned). Geeking out to SkyMall on airplanes, I found a map that they build for you and they give you different color pins to mark 1) if you've been to said place 2) if you're planning on it and 3) if it's a dream destination. You can always change it and hang it on your wall. Sort of like the non-digital Google map :)

Thanks Grace! I'm sure there are some cities I forgot to include–but it's definitely been a fun project to work on. It sounds like we can definitely relate when it comes to traveling. I love visiting new places and seeing new sites. I am so excited to read your post on this tomorrow! And I can't wait to check out the map you mentioned as well. Thanks for stopping by. I'll be responding to your e-mail today, promise! :)
